Stepping up to the Role

Stepping up to the Role workshop is designed specifically for supervisors and managers working in the rapidly changing Cultural Services, where layers of managers are being taken out, staff are being expected to manage the day to day and managers are having to manage clusters rather than individual units. For many managers and supervisors this can be quite a daunting prospect especially if they have received little or no management development and have been manoeuvred into the position.

    Content Overview

Session 1 - Choose Your Focus

    • Looked at how the roles of modern managers and supervisors have and will continue to change
    • Discussed the vision for the future of the service
    • Developed the behaviours which will underpin your performance as effective managers and leaders
    • Identify what you can and need to do to deliver

Coaching Activity - as many supervisors and managers, understand the need for this, they rarely 'coach' as effectively as they potentially could. This is a short but effective activity which allows supervisors and managers to actively use open questions while minimizing tendancies to provide solutions.

Action Centre Leadership - a traditional view of management is more about managing the task rather than the people, this model explores the consequences of focusing upon, task, team and individual's.

Motivation, Inspiration and Influencing - using the latest research in Neuroleadership, explore how to influence, inspire and enable staff to be intrinsically motivated to achieve key deliverables.

Session 4 - Keeping the Momentum Going

    • Following up and reviewing action plans / goals
    • Managing underperformance - an introduction to the STAR model for managing performance of individual staff members.
    • Three Steps Model - this is another tool which will help to deal with difficult situations and sometimes perceived challenging behaviour of staff.
